About this Cocktail

The drink that inspired BarNotes. My good friend Dan Stone, a fellow cohort on BarNotes, introduced me to this cocktail on one of his previous visits to the Bay area. After he left I searched the recipe online and found many versions. None of them this recipe. None of them this good.

  • 1 oz. Old Overholt rye whiskey
  • 1 oz. Lairds Bonded Apple Brandy
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 2 dashes Woodford Reserve cherry bitters
  • 1 bar spoon of maple syrup

Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Add ice, stir and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with lemon peel.

  • Ryan Gannon tried the 1/1/2 dashes orange bitters/1 brown sugar cube route? That's the Milk & Honey (McIlroy & Boccato) one, and it's pretty stellar.

    Have not but sounds good. I will say my fav part of this version of the drink is the maple - if you use the good stuff. Will try with brown.

    Had once at White Star. Bartender insisted it also included Scotch. Strange.

    Very nice. Didn't have any cherry bitters, so subbed peychauds. Still nice. Next time May sub a bourbon cherry instead.
