From Gary Regan's The Joy of Mixology, Bottled Cocktails are a great way to take drinks to a party without the need for equipment. Since bottled cocktails are not shaken (and thus no water from melting ice is contributed), Mr. Regan recommends including water in the recipe--an amount equal to about 1/3rd the sum of the other ingredients. This bottled cocktail has a bit less water since it is poured over ice and has a red wine float.
This recipe is geared for a 750ml bottle, making five servings.
10 oz bourbon
3.75 oz Meyer lemon juice
3.75 oz simple syrup
5 oz water
About 25 dashes of habanero tincture, but add to taste
~0.5 oz red wine float, per drink
Combine all of the ingredients into a 750 ml bottle and chill for at least six hours.
Once water is added, it's best to chill the bottle--at least 6 hours.
To serve, pour about 4.5 oz of the bottled cocktail over a chilled and iced rocks glass, then float about 0.5 oz red wine.
