The Baldwin Bar's Instagram page posted about Vannaluck Hongthong's World's Fair drink as a throwback offering (circa 2016), and I was inspired to use it as a skeleton to riff off of that evening. For a name, I based it off of Walter Benjamin's 1935 commentary how world's fairs "are places of pilgrimage to the commodity fetish." Overall, it fulfilled my need for a dessert/nightcap sort of drink at that moment. A touch sweeter than my normal palate but balanced somewhat by bitter notes and booze.
1 1/2 oz Aged Rum (such as Appleton Signature)
3/4 oz Amaro Montenegro
3/4 oz Punt e Mes
1/2 oz Crème de Cacao (such as Tempus Fugit)
2 dash Angostura Bitters
Stir with ice, strain into a cocktail coupe, and garnish with an orange peel-cherry flag.
