About this Cocktail

Taking the Ferrari shot (50:50 Fernet:Campari) in a New Orleans direction. The pinch of salt lets the other flavors shine over the bitterness. Inspired by Tujaques in NOLA which made me think of playing cards, both red and black ones. Clubs & Hearts was the 2nd runner up. This was crafted by myself at Our Fathers Restaurant in Allston, MA.

  • 1 1/2 oz Fernet Branca
  • 1 1/2 oz Campari
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 7 dash Peychaud's Bitters
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • Absinthe for rinsing glass

Dissolve salt in simple syrup, add rest save for the absinthe, stir with ice, and strain into an absinthe-rinsed rocks glass. Twist a lemon peel over the top and discard.

Like an ‘improved’ Ferrari shot. Nice job!

Maraschino in the classic Improved would be a great touch since it is a great pairing with both Campari (makes it fruitier akin to Aperol) and Fernet (mollifies some of the bitterness and gives it richness). Hmm... for future tinkering.
