About this Cocktail

My slightly savory take on the classic Whiskey Sour we all know and love. This drink was featured on Sizzle Pie’s Winter 2018-19 cocktail menu.

  • 1 oz Basil Cane Syrup*
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • 1 ½ oz Egg White
  • ¼ oz Elderflower liqueur
  • ½ oz Ginger liqueur
  • 1¼ oz Old Overholt Rye Whiskey

Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice and set aside to chill. Add everything to a shaker without ice and dry shake vigorously for a minute. Add ice and shake hard for 30 seconds or so. Dump out ice from the glass and fine strain into the chilled glass. Garnish with drops of Angostura bitters on top, swirling into a cool pattern of you so desire. Sláinte!

2 cups water
2 cups granulated sugar
25 Basil leaves
Add everything to a saucepan over medium heat, making sure not to boil. Stir frequently, and once the sugar is completely dissolved, remove the mixture from heat. Let the leaves remain in the syrup for 15-20 minutes. Strain, bottle, and refrigerate. It should keep refrigerated for 2 weeks.
