I wanted a barrel-aged gin cocktail and really didn't know what to make. Maybe I could make something like a Manhattan, but with gin. Or maybe a Negroni. But I also really wanted to use Italicus, which I have an entire bottle of, and is a very strange and unfriendly spirit (i.e. it doesn't really go into anything else!), so I decided to lean into the sweet herbaceousness and then balance it out with the Fred Jerbis's amaro, and that lead me here.
The name is a reference to Mark Zuckerberg's desire to become the Caesar Augustus of the modern era, except Caesar Augustus didn't have to contemplate antitrust concerns.
So we drink in their honor. Santé!
Stir all the ingredients together over ice and strain into a coup glace.
