About this Cocktail

I wanted a barrel-aged gin cocktail and really didn't know what to make. Maybe I could make something like a Manhattan, but with gin. Or maybe a Negroni. But I also really wanted to use Italicus, which I have an entire bottle of, and is a very strange and unfriendly spirit (i.e. it doesn't really go into anything else!), so I decided to lean into the sweet herbaceousness and then balance it out with the Fred Jerbis's amaro, and that lead me here.

The name is a reference to Mark Zuckerberg's desire to become the Caesar Augustus of the modern era, except Caesar Augustus didn't have to contemplate antitrust concerns.

So we drink in their honor. Santé!

  • 1½ oz Barr Hill Tom Cat Barrel Aged Gin
  • ¾ oz Fred Jerbis Amaro 16
  • ½ oz Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto Liqueur
  • ½ oz Leopold's Navy Strength Gin
  • 2 dashes Bittermens Boston Bittahs

Stir all the ingredients together over ice and strain into a coup glace.
