Inspired by my boss, Doug - a hipster, if ever there was one while being both retro and cutting edge, this cocktail, like Doug is an anachronism. A living ambiguity. So the cocktail yields a chocolate cherry-ishbasis with the rye bringing it back to proper balance.
1 1/2 oz Old Overholt Rye
1/2 oz Carpano Antica Vermouth
1/4 oz Cherry Heering
2-3 dashes Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate Bitters
Garnish with a Luxardo cherry.
Optional Garnish: 1 piece of dark chocolate
Note: I spent FAR too much time trying to drill a hole in the Chocolate piece to place it between the 2 cherries...and failed. Next time, will be better!
Take all but the garnishes and combine in a mixing glass.
Add ice to the mixing glass and stir for 45 seconds until well chilled.
Double strain into a chilled “hipster”/modern day cocktail glass that you’d expect to see Doug drinking from while attempting to keep his beard from getting wet. Add a single spheroid ice ball upon preference.
