About this Cocktail

A favorite forgotten classic. Experiment with the salt here. It rounds the edges of the drink nicely.

Ingredients:
  • 1 oz Willett 5-year rye
  • 3/4 Campari
  • 3/4 Dolin dry vermouth
  • Small pinch of salt
  • Orange peel garnish
Preparation:

Combine ingredients in a beaker, including the salt, and stir until chilled. Strain into coupe. Hit with orange peel.

I prefer Willett 5-yr rye and Dolin dry for this, but use whatever you like.

Agreed. The salt is an interesting twist. A forgotten classic? What are the origins?

Just went to great me cocktail bar on Athens ga named after this drink. Great version made there too. Been making them since I had few there.

Have had many (probably too many) in Paris @ Harry's American Bar, but the salt is a great twist. Good job.

Has anyone tried the variation with Aperol vs Campari?
