Something for Mary

About this Cocktail

Watching The Educated Barfly on YouTube recently he presented a cocktail from Tony Abou-Ganim’s book “Modern Mixologist”. His “Just for Mary” recipe included a Luxardo Cherry as a garnish—but this drink is for ‘my wife Mary’ and she’s not a fan of Luxardo 🍒 so this is “Something for Mary”.

For the zealots of mixology, it’s worth noting Tony was a little OCD when it came to mixing his spirits only cocktails with adherence to the rule of thumb of stir 20 times to the right, stir 20 times to the left!

  • 2 oz 100% Rye (I used Old Overholt)
  • 1/2 oz Cherry Heering Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Lillet Blanc
  • 2 dashes Hella Orange 🍊 Bitters
  • Luxardo Cherry garnish (but not this time or ever for @Mary)

Combine all ingredients into a mixing glass and add some large chunks of ice.

Stir thoroughly until well chilled (and if inclined 20 times in one direction and 20 more in the opposite)

Double strain into a chilled coupe and garnish to preference.
