About this Cocktail

Classic cocktail with a twist created for The Bar at Sienna Sulla Piazza in Market Square-Pittsburgh, PA

  • 1 1/2 oz. Bulleit Rye Whiskey
  • 1 oz. Compari
  • 1 oz. Carpano Antica Vermouth
  • Orange Twist

Combine Bulleit Rye, Compari and Carpano Antica into a mixing glass.

Using a bar spoon, stir thoroughly until well chilled, and strain over an Old Fashioned glass filled with fresh ice.

Cut or peel a wide orange twist. Squeeze to express the oils over the cocktail, drop it in and serve (I also like to slide the twist around the rim of the glass).

Same here. I've tried multiple variations of this classic cocktail and this is definitely my favorite. I think the balanced spice notes in Bulleit combined with the intense and rounded favors of Carpano Antica really make it a refreshing and delicious cocktail.

Also while the traditional recipe might call for a 1:1:1 pour, I feel like the drink is really balanced out with a slightly larger measure of Rye than the Compari and Vermouth.

: Y'all have already said it all. A great drink.

I replaced the Carpano with Punt Y Mes out of necessity and the larger measure of Rye definitely helped keep it from being overly bitter. Delicious as always.

I also like it heavy on the rye: 1.5 rye, .75 sweet vermouth, .5 Campari. Same proportions as the Arrigo Park. That said, I like my Negroni's equal parts.
  • Stilo Nyc
Wow! I started making this at my bar a couple of weeks ago when I discovered it was the precursor to the Negroni by 20 years. Nice one!

I really enjoy this drink served up. Go Steelers.
