This drink is by James West. The recipe was provided on Jeffrey Morgenthaler's web site. The recipe here is the official one, but I've used various bourbons and amarettos, as well as whole anise pods, and the result is always great.
1.5oz Makers Mark bourbon
.75oz DiSaronno amaretto
2 dashes peach bitters
1 star anise seed
Shake all four ingredients over cracked ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with another star anise seed and a brandied cherry.
