Carciofo Sour

About this Cocktail

Carciofo is Italian for artichoke, and this drink is a sour using the Italian amaro Cynar, which is made with artichokes. I played with the proportions on this one enough that I eventually ran out of lemons, which was fortunate because it's surprisingly good with some orange juice.

  • 1.5 oz cynar
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1/4 oz lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3/4 oz egg white

Build in shaker, dry-shake vigorously, add a few cubes and shake until chilled, strain over a big cube in an old fashioned glass, or something similar. Finish with an orange swath.

  • Renee Strickland
Paired very well with lemon steamed artichokes (made garlicky mayo with the egg yolks leftover after this recipe) and a salmon filet.
  • Dan Stone
    Sounds delicious, Renee.
