About this Cocktail

A slight variation on a classic drink from a classic book. Originally equal parts rye, sweet and Benedictine, I upped the rye and lessened the Benedictine.

  • 1.5 oz. Rittenhouse rye
  • 3/4 oz. Dolin sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 oz. Benedictine.
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • Dash Herbsaint Original Absinthe
  • Lemon peel garnish

Combine first 5 ingredients. Stir, and strain. Add 1 brandied cherry, lemon peel around the rim and dropped into the glass.

  • Brandon Herring
Having one of these again. Upped the Benedictine to 1/2 oz. Perfect.
  • Doctor Gumbo
Enjoying this for the first time. After a long day of work guiding people around Louisiana plantation country this is hitting the spot!
  • Brandon Herring
Awesome! This is one of my favs.
  • Doctor Gumbo
    Great complexity...gets better with time!
  • Rufus Grantham @demonbitters
Oh yeah baby. That is properly delicious.
  • Tom Lyberg
Long time favorite. Herbsaint is good but I like real absinthe even better.

Had my first a la Louisiane about 4 months ago at the 21st amendment in New Orleans. Great drink.
